Its time for the holidays, shopping, arranging schedules, and the crowds. This time of year is particularly hard on women. And when it is all done, there is that holiday let down. What can we do to relieve that holiday stress?
What is stress anyway? Until 1936, the concept hadn’t been invented yet. People were stressed, they just didn’t have a name for it.
Stress is when the body is activated into the famous fight or flight mode. Actually a lot of Fs can apply, particularly in the holiday season. Freeze, flight, fight, fun, frenzy, feeding, etc. are all reactions to get your body activated for intense action. It is a good thing for a few moments, even a couple of hours, if it is not too intense or uncomfortable. The problem is when uncomfortable stress goes on and on and on.
When the stress becomes chronic, you are worried about the same things, day after day. Then the body suffers all the bad things that come from stress. We get sick, cranky, exhausted, unhappy, and all of this in the name of having a perfect holiday! The reason we want a perfect holiday is to have a loving, happy, warm, relaxed time. The contradiction between what we want, and what we are experiencing, is not lost on us as we rush through the season.
There are two basic ways to try to solve the holiday stress problem. One, we work even harder to try to make everything perfect, by doing more. We feel stressed, so we try to do something to make the stress go away. While we are getting it done, more things come up that we really should do. Now we feel even more stressed. The more stressed we are, the more we need to get things done…the more things we are trying to get done, the more stressed we are. We get caught up trying to solve a puzzle that doesn’t have a solution.
The second way is to take some time to relieve the stress, by doing an activity that takes it away. Massage, meditation, and interval exercise can really help. Then you can go back into the fray, a little more refreshed.
The new techniques of Pro EFT and EFT take this a step further. We relieve that holiday stress you are feeling naturally. While bringing up the stress, your body learns not to be stressed in the first place. You think about going out into the fray and feel relaxed anyway. You go out into the fray and feel patient, calm, and happy…whatever reaction you want to feel. Combine this with a good massage afterwards, and the pre-holiday routine can be a great day!
