Stressful events commonly precede getting Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). Having different Rheumatoid factors, RF + or RF-, appears to determine whether severe stressors or repeating minor stressors induce the disease. This research illustrates why it is so important to eliminate your traumas and chronic stress before you get sick. In order to understand how Pro EFT can help a person who already has the disease requires learning a little more about how stress and RA work together against your body.
Emotional stress and energetic tension send signals to the adrenal glands to secrete the hormone cortisol. Cortisol suppresses your immune system. For most of our long evolutionary history humans have lived in situations where the fight or flight stress response involved real fighting and fleeing. A person fighting off a lion with a pointy stick could not waste their energy fighting off a microbe at the same time. This suppression of our immune system when we are stressed is why we often get sick just after a major stressor comes into our lives. Sometimes the immune system disruption also happens with mild chronic stressors. A perfect example of this is being well during the week at work and then getting sick on weekends and vacations.
When the specific RF factor combines with it’s stress type the immune system fails to work properly. If the person is then invaded by the wrong microbe RA is born. The disrupted immune system becomes ineffective against the microbe and begins attacking the body instead.
The person who now has RA soon discovers their original stress is now combined with the stress of a devastating chronic illness. Stress causes RA to get far worse using a variety of biological pathways. I will illustrate this with two pathways using just one hormone, cortisol. There are many other pathways in RA which produce more pain and destruction everyday a person remains stressed out and unhappy.
Chronic stress causes chronically elevated cortisol. We know this causes RA to flare up with increased inflammation. Now didn’t we just say that cortisol suppresses the immune system. In theory this should work to suppress the immune system and inflammation. With short term stress cortisol does work as expected. During chronic stress the receptor sites in our immune system are bombarded by cortisol. This causes the immune system to adapt. The receptors in our immune system that turn off the immune response start to disappear. This means the cortisol no longer lowers inflammation because the immune system can’t receive the signal to shut down. Your immune system can’t stop attacking you because it has lost the off button.
Cortisol also produces insulin resistance. Insulin resistance causes inflammation body wide. The diseases with causal links to insulin resistance include Alzheimer’s and Diabetes. Diabetes is associated with more joint pain, just what someone with RA wants to avoid. Even if a person were only experiencing more pain, having moderately high blood sugar, and becoming more forgetful it would be wise to eliminate their chronic stress anyway.
We have known for a while that Pro EFT tapping therapy eliminates the chronic stress response from individual events. Clinical studies are now showing that EFT lowers the overall stressful emotions of the person receiving the treatment. Our treatment plan will start out lowering the distress levels around the current problems that are causing your current stress. We then eliminate the distress from the Core Issue that is at the root of the chronic stress. When this issue is resolved your stress hormones to return to normal levels for that entire problem. In many cases the level of pain involved decreases. The vicious circle is broken and your body is given back the ability to begin healing.

With each session we will add a positive tapping exercise that will become a routine you can accomplish in two to five minutes throughout your day. You also will learn how to activate your energetic and emotional healing response when it is inconvenient to tap the full routine. With RA this technique will also allow you to “tap” when it is just too painful to move. You will learn the Pro EFT techniques to use on you own long after your sessions are over.
The three aspects of good health that are disrupted by RA are biomechanical, biochemical, and emotional/energetic. All three of these interact with and effect each other. A successful overall treatment plans requires all three be addressed. Physical therapy, yoga, massage, and chiropractic are examples of biomechanical interventions.
